Google’s Nexus tablet to be unveiled next week

42% of smartphone owners go online to check prices in-store

A new survey of European consumers confirms the trend for shoppers to use their smartphones to research products in-store. The report from Tradedoubler found that 42% of smartphone owners use their device to compare prices in-store, while 13% claim to have switched stores after finding a better offer elsewhere. Location-based offers or vouchers, however, help to secure the interest of a fifth of potential buyers.

Apple, Samsung own over 50 percent of the smartphone market, nearly all of its profits

A new report from ABI Research says that while there are many players in the smartphone market today, Apple and Samsung hold 55 percent of the entire market, and the lion's share of the profits made from smartphones. In fact, Apple and Samsung's dominance is so strong, ABI claims that the two companies hold 90 percent of the profits earned from smartphone sales.

mCommerce Maximises on Monday Mornings

Play.com has taken a look at its mobile browsing figures - and discovered that Monday morning is the busiest period for mCommerce, with mobile browsing surging at 7–8am. Shopping on a mobile device from bed or on the morning commute is a consistent behaviour throughout the week, with the highest levels of mobile browser activity occurring between 6–8am. It's during this timeframe that mobile users are most likely to click through on deals.

Swipe Pay - The First Open Virtual Wallet?

Swipe Pay has unveiled its mobile payment solution and app, which, the company claims, is the first “open virtual wallet”. Users can add their debit and credit cards – as well as loyalty and rewards cards – to the app, and make payments utilising encrypted QR codes and Bluetooth technology. Complementing iOS and web apps will be ATM and POS hardware, enabling users to get cash out with their phones, pay online and in-store, and make person-to-person transfers.
